Know your cheapest way out — before you call them.

Trapped in a vet wellness plan? Compute your cheapest way out.

A clinic wellness plan is a 12-month contract, and cancelling early runs through a settlement the seller never computes for you. This checker does — from the numbers on your own invoices. Banfield's settlement is its own published lesser-of formula. VCA publishes no formula, so its mode is an honest estimator with the breakdown to demand. Petco's is a break-even. Three providers, three doors, one answer: the cheapest of cancel now, pay to the end of the term, or stop the renewal only — with your anniversary and act-by dates attached.

Your cheapest way out — computed

Tell it your provider, the monthly price on your own bill, how many months you have paid, what you have paid in total, and the retail value of the services and discounts you have used so far (it is on your invoices — or ask the plan team for the itemized breakdown). It answers with the three contract options priced side by side: cancel now, pay to the end of the term, or stop the renewal only — plus your anniversary and act-by dates, and the true-cost panel for your price. No login, nothing uploaded; it runs on this page, in your browser.

I prepaid the full year up front

Banfield results use Banfield's own published lesser-of formula. VCA results are labeled estimates — VCA does not publish a cancellation formula or a national price list. Petco results are a loyalty-program break-even, not a contract exit. A wellness plan never covers accidents or illness — if that is the cover you want, that is pet insurance, and the sister site PetCoverCheck reads policy forms: its checker is free.

The line this site never crosses: What care your pet gets is a decision for you and your veterinarian. These pages are only about the contract and the money.

Three providers, three different traps

Banfield

The lesser-of true-up

Plans from $26.95/mo, average about $52/mo. Cancelling settles at the lesser of services-used-minus-payments or the payments remaining — Banfield's own stated formula, with a 4-business-day window at the start. The Banfield hub →

VCA CareClub

No published formula

VCA does not publish a cancellation formula or a national price list. Clinics settle individually, and documented first quotes ($1,100 where finishing cost $700) settled lower after complaints ($480). The VCA hub →

Petco Vital Care

A loyalty lock

Premier is $24.99/mo on a 12-month commitment, $180/yr of it coming back as rewards. No services true-up — the question is break-even. The Petco hub →

The situation nobody helps with today: "my pet died and they are still charging me" is a real search, typed by a person holding a bill — and page one is stories, not help. Our pet-death guide is complete and fully useful free: the numbers method, the full escalation sequence, and the documented cases, labeled as reported outcomes and never as promises.

Why the clinics cannot publish this checker

Banfield and VCA are both Mars companies. The annual lock, the retail-value settlement, and the silent auto-renewal are the retention model — an honest "here is your cheapest way out, computed" tool is a product the seller cannot ship against itself. So a neutral site ships it, sells only the paperwork help, and prints its formula sources on every page.

Included in the $39 Exit Kit

  • Per-provider exit playbooks: Banfield in full, VCA negotiation-led, Petco short — who to contact, in what order, and what to say
  • Phone and written cancellation scripts, including the itemized-breakdown demand: "read me the retail value of services and discounts used, and the total payments made"
  • The pet-death compassion-escalation pack: clinic, plan relations, written complaint, BBB, state attorney general — with documented outcomes labeled as reported, never promised
  • Moved, rehomed, and clinic-closed playbooks — the paperwork each situation actually turns on

Questions people ask at midnight

Is there a flat cancellation fee?

No. For Banfield there is a settlement — the lesser of two numbers the checker computes. Anyone quoting a flat $50–$150 fee is guessing. The cancel guide →

My pet died. Do I still have to pay?

The contract does not end on its own, and Banfield has written that its cancellation method applies "including the passing of the pet." But the settlement is a formula, the formula has a lesser number, and documented bills have moved after complaints. The full free guide →

Can I just stop paying?

That is the most expensive option on this site: Banfield's own responses describe 120 days past due, all remaining installments collected, and a third-party collector with fees added. What actually happens →

Is a wellness plan the same as pet insurance?

No. Pet insurance is a policy you buy from an insurance company. A wellness plan is a service contract you sign at a vet clinic. Different paper, different trap — this site is about the clinic contract. The full comparison →
